Dr. Radulescu and Joyce Hip and Knee Replacement

Joyce:

Before I had my consultation with Dr. Radulescu, I was having a lot of pain in daily functioning. We live on a little, small hobby farm, and just taking care of the cows or doing gardening was so painful that my husband was having to come home from work and take care of most of the things. My hips were hurting. My knees were hurting. And so Dr. Rad was recommended to me.

Dr. Mihail Radulescu:

Yeah, I remember seeing Ms. Joyce first time. She had a lot of pain. She was limping. We have to understand the patients, we are treating humans, human beings, not x-rays. So everyone is different. Also, we have to understand the pain level, the impact in daily living and the activities the patient are doing, and the expectations as well when we make up a plan together.

Joyce:

It was very much a team effort when he met with me and consulted. He wanted to know exactly what was hurting, where it was hurting, how much pain there was, what my limits were. And like he said, he gave me options as to less invasive treatment to try first, if I wanted to do that. And we did that, but it wasn’t enough to relieve my pain. I told him that I really was ready for surgery, and he agreed that I had some deterioration in the bones and the joints that surgery was justified.

Dr. Mihail Radulescu:

Surgery in the activation of joints are life-changing events. Usually they are successful, very successful, and makes a difference. The pain is gone a couple of days, weeks after the surgery, and limping as well. Mobility is better. [inaudible 00:01:59] need less pain medication.

Joyce:

I’ve had a wonderful experience with my surgeries. Within 10 days I was able to stop the prescription pain meds. I don’t have to use my cane to get around or walk at all. Very minimum pain, Tylenol at bedtime maybe, just so that I can get sleep quicker and my hip was the same way. But everything has been very quick healing and I think a very successful and positive recovery.

Dr. Mihail Radulescu:

Obviously I’m pleased and happy as a human being and as a friend, as a doctor, this is our duty to care for all patients. This my reason to be. So I’m pleased you have a good outcome.

Joyce:

Yeah. And I’m ready to have the other knee done, so that come summer, I’ll be able to do whatever I need to do in the farm and have no pain anymore.
